THE GREAT AMERICAN BIBLE CHALLENGE is breaking ground as, for the first time ever, a network will be airing a Bible trivia game. Hoping to address a huge swath of the country that isn’t currently being reached by television programming by producing a faith-based show based on the Bible, GSN, The Game Show Network, launched their casting call for THE GREAT AMERICAN BIBLE CHALLENGE, hosted by Jeff Foxworthy, in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, June 2.
From children to grandparents, the chatter in the casting-call line was upbeat and excited as people visited with one another as they waited for their chance to share their knowledge, share their faith, and ultimately win money for the charity of their choice. Many were confident in their knowledge of Bible stories, some were not, and most agreed that the debut of the show was timely.
A hopeful team, Krashanda and Jessica from Dallas, admitted that they may not know the Bible as well as they could, but they were going to give it their best shot. Jessica says, “I think it’s long overdue for something like this,” and Krashanda adds, “It’s going to be amazing…amazing.”
David Schiff, Senior Vice President of Programming, agrees when he states, “We realized that faith-based programming is not addressed by mainstream media, and we really thought that there was a huge void out there.” He goes on to state, “We’re going to celebrate people who read the Bible — people who the Bible is important to them. We’re going to have fun. We’re going to be completely appropriate.”
A family from North Dallas who plays Bible trivia games regularly in their home were excited about putting the Bible on a game show. In answer to their feelings of Jeff Foxworthy being the host, they were emphatic in their support of him, “I think he’s wonderful. I haven’t seen anything of his that I objected to, and I’m not surprised to know that he’s a believer. I think it’s wonderful.”
Jeff Foxworthy, currently seen on GSN in his role as host of ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5TH GRADER?, is one of the most respected and successful comedians in the country. He is the largest-selling comedy recording artist in history, a multiple Grammy® Award nominee and bestselling author of more than 26 books.
A young sibling team, Alex, Ryan and Lauren, admitted to not playing Bible trivia and not knowing that much about it, but they can rest assured that they don’t have to be Bible scholars to be on the show. David Schiff remarks, “Nobody is ever going to feel stupid on our show for not knowing an answer. And I will say that we don’t want Bible scholars on our show. It is very much sort of the top-line people, stories, and events. It’s not into the deep crevices of scripture.”
THE AMERICAN BIBLE CHALLENGE is produced by RelativityREAL for GSN, with RelativityREAL’s Tom Forman and Embassy Row’s Michael Davies serving as Executive Producers on the project.
Casting calls will also take place in Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Sacramento. So brush up on your Bible stories and give it a try. You may just win some money for your favorite charity and have fun while doing so!
